The Kenya Kick-Boxing Federation secretary and coach Takid Master has set his sights on the Kenya Open Championships on December 17, where they plan to select a national team for next year’s international competitions.

Master was speaking following the conclusion of a successful Chairman’s Cup at Pumwani Social Hall over weekend, where eight teams; Hard-core, Ulinzi, Dragon, Nakuru, USIU, Takids, One tribe and Naivasha took part.

Hard-core won the championships while Master’s side, Takids settled for sixth. Ulinzi, Dragon and Nakuru placed second, third and fourth respectively. USIU, One tribe and Naivasha settled for fifth, seventh and eighth places respectively.

“Our next and last competition this year will be the Kenya Open Kick-Boxing Championships. It should be held in Mombasa but we shall communicate in case of any changes,” said Master.

“The championships will be used to select the national team for next year’s international assignments.”

Going forward, Master said they will have to work on judging and coaching levels as well as adherence to rules for both the players and coaches.

“The coaches and players have some work to do ahead of the championship and that’s what we are going to work on at the moment,” he said.

However, Master noted that before the championship, they will host a national coaches and referees seminar in their quest to get more qualified practitioners to spread the sport to grassroots.

“We shall be seeking to spread the sport to the grassroots. We also want to get the sport to the various institutions and even the uniformed services,” he said.
